Why You Should Start Using a Body Mask
Julia DiNardo
We’re often told to exfoliate, deep clean, and moisturize our face, but what about giving the rest of our skin some TLC? Erica Vega, in-house product expert at LUSH Fresh Homemade Cosmetics, an international purveyor of natural, organic beauty products, is convinced it’s essential.
“We can be so utilitarian about our bodies, washing and occasionally scrubbing them, and slapping on a little lotion when we have time,” says Vega. “Every now and then we pamper our faces, but we rarely give our bodies such a luxurious treat.”
Here are three reasons why you should add a multitasking body mask to your beauty regiment.
#1 Get a healthy glow
“Sloughing off dead skin is a great way to improve skin tone,” says Vega. While cleaning like a champ, body masks can help to get rid of the top layer of dead skin cells, resulting in a brightening effect. “You’ll get rid of grayish skin to reveal a fresh glow, and the scrub will stimulate blood flow to nourish the cells,” adds Vega.
#2 Lock in hydration
The essential oils, nutrients, and antioxidants found in body masks lock in hydration to promote skin cell health. “(At LUSH), we use rich, cold-pressed sesame oil to nourish and moisturize,” says Vega. “Sesame oil is rich in vitamin E, which is antioxidant rich, quenching the free radicals that lead to cell decay, and keeping the skin cells functioning healthily.”
#3 No tools necessary
Doing a full-body mask may sound like a hassle, but it doesn’t have to be. “For a full body mask, you can just get in the shower, get wet, and start scrubbing. You can turn the shower head off, hang out for about five minutes, then rinse off,” says Vega. Still can’t find the time? Try using the mask as a shower scrub if you don’t feel like waiting around.
