Peppermint Elderberry Lip Balm Recipe
The rosy color is provided by a combination of dried elderberries and alkanet root powder, infused in olive or sweet almond oil. I keep a jar of this on hand at all times. Simply throw a spoonful or two of each herb into a small jar then cover with several inches of oil, cap and store in a cool, dark place. Allow this to infuse for a week or two, then strain the herbs out. It will keep around a year if stored properly. Other colors I like to use in lip balms are annatto seed powder (for peachy/orangey coloring) and chlorella powder (for a pale green tint that won’t stain your lips – great for lime flavored lip balm!)
If you are pregnant or nursing, consult with a health care professional before using products containing alkanet root.

I'm wanting to make lip balm with colour and I'm happy I found your recipe :) I was wondering about using elderberry crystal powder and letting it sit in some jojoba oil for a few days? I'll add my oils + the berry colour.
