They can heal, soothe and protect your skin; reduce scarring; repel insects; stop itching due to dry skin, insect bites, or certain skin disorders; and much more. There are many oils that are useful in skin-care, but these five have the widest range of usefulness: CAUTION: Essential oils should never be applied to the skin full strength, and even diluted, they should be kept well away from the eyes and mucus membranes. Most are so concentrated that unless diluted with a “carrier oil,” (sometimes called a “fixed oil”) they can cause severe chemical type burns and scarring. If you accidentally get full-strength essential oil on your skin, immediately apply a vegetable oil like olive oil and see your doctor if the burning sensation is severe. Essential oils are not recommended for internal use. The majority are highly toxic if swallowed, and totally unsafe internally, unless supervised by an expert.
Carrot Seed OilCarrot seed essential oil is useful for revitalizing and toning the skin, reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging, and reducing oiliness (when blended with an easily absorbed carrier oil like coconut.) It is also helpful in treating dermatitis, eczema, psoriasis, and rashes. German ChamomileGerman chamomile is an excellent oil for treating skin conditions of many types. It is useful as part of your acne treatment, as well as for treating allergic reactions, boils, burns, cuts, dermatitis, eczema, inflammation, insect bites, rashes, sensitive skin, and wounds. (Note: chamomile is related to the ragweed family of plants. If you are allergic to ragweed, test carefully on a small section of skin at the wrist or elbow to see if you develop a rash or other allergic reaction.)

Clary SageClary sage is used to treat acne, boils, dandruff, hair loss, and skin inflammations or ulcers. It is also helpful in reducing oiliness and wrinkles. (Note: Do not use clary sage while pregnant, as it can cause miscarriage. In addition, you should never drink alcohol when using it, as the interaction can be dangerous.)
LavenderLavender oil is one of the very few that is safe to use undiluted on your skin. Lavender is one of the most versatile essential oils available, and has many uses. In skin-care, it is used to treat abscesses, acne, allergic reactions, athlete’s foot, blisters, boils, bruises, burns, dermatitis, eczema, inflammations, insect bites and stings, as an insect repellent, to treat lice, psoriasis, ringworm, sores of all types, sunburns, and cuts and wounds. It’s good for all skin types, lightens the appearance of age spots, and reduces scarring from burns and wounds if used during healing.
